Let us play too!
Here is a new equation that doesn't yield the results that I was hoping for:
(Amazon S3) + (Microsoft HealthVault) + (Google <yet to be named health record storage>) = No go in Canada
I have been looking at using Amazon S3 for a product that we're quietly working on here at Scimatic. Last week I read a blog entry from Greg Wilson stating the facts...
We (Canadians) can not use these services for sensitive data due to the Ontario’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Acts (FIPPA). According the the FIPPA rules, sensitive information can not be stored in jurisdictions that permit secret warrants. Since the States now has the ever popular USA PATRIOT Act means the we are cut off from these services in Canada.
Greg goes on to wish that Amazon sets up a cluster in Canada so we could use it... This is also not a possibility since the installation is still foreign owned.
I will try to search for a similar service here in Canada but I think that I'm out of luck.
